According to the Ubuntu wiki (at 
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/Flash):
* Install the alsa-oss package
* Make sure your /etc/firefox/firefoxrc has 'FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"'

Worked for me.
