If you like Debian/Ubuntu you can try:

But I also got working dmd on linux many times with manual installation
(Tango/DWT). Of course I had to change some initial configuration entries.

You can be right about 64-bit environment, I haven't tried it. But as
long it does the job at the same time or even slower than 32-bit, I
don't care (see

But the works are in progress to have 64-bit in the future.
