Oh, I didn't write the installation guide, so I'm not exactly fine with either techniques. I've just haven't updated/removed it
because people would arguably complain that they can't easily remove gdc having installed it in /usr/local.
I install gdc in ~/bin, because it's easier for me to handle (there is never any need to elevate to root privileges), and there are
hooks in bashrc which auto-magically add it to my PATH.
