You can't fork. That's the main consideration. Brushing this aside as a 
philosophical issue vs. a practical one is a misunderstanding on your 
part. Not being included in a base distribution like Debian or Ubuntu is 
a serious practical disadvantage as well. Every barrier you put up 
hinders adoption.
