Here there are several people that use D that find surprising things in a tiny piece of code, and discuss about it with many posts. This is the best demonstration that this is a special case that adds complexity to the language, that needs to be removed. A special case is worth keeping only in special situations, only when it gives a significant advantage. This is not the case.
