There are languages where source takes the form of an image, a musical 
score or some other kind of binary file.

But I haven't seen one before where it's a word-processor document. 
What document format(s) do you plan to support?  (I guess this would be 
defined at the language level, just like D files being in Unicode is at 
the moment.)
