Also, I see the competition for new programmers on a daily basis. 
Rcpp, which allows one to embed C++ code inside an R program, is 
the most popular dependency of R packages. D is unable to compete 
in that space because of the lack of proper DLL support for 
Windows and no such support for Mac. I will never be convinced 
that D wouldn't be preferred by data scientists. But that's not 
happening because of D's current limitations.
