What do you think would be the key factors to drive mass adoption of D?

I agree with you! It's just that the last 20 years have shown 
that this plan isn't working. And no one (myself, at least) is 
demanding that D be developed differently. There's just a sense 
of regret that such a wonderful language is where it is today.
