To what extent can that situation be improved with respect to Phobos?  The ideal 
would be to make it non-GC-reliant and agnostic with respect to how the runtime 
manages memory.

More generally, this makes a case for something like a well defined 
"dmicroruntime" which can be used as a general solution for embedded and 
low-level programming.
