As a beginner I found D to be too difficult. There are quite some 
problems like the lack of mature libraries and, much worse, good 
documentation. I'd rather recommend Java (huge number of libraries and 
lots of docs, clean language approach) or a language from the .NET 
familiy (C#, VB.NET).
If you can cope with one of these languages, D is just a short step away.
