It's never a "fight". I think Scala type system is a bit too much complex for the average programmer (but I may be wrong, I've seen some people use Scala in almost normal situations), so I don't think D and Scala are true competitors.
On the other hand there are type system features that are absent in Scala that now I think may be more useful than the Scala ones :-)
